Should You Invest in SEO or Paid Ads? A Straightforward Breakdown
July 30, 2025Consistency Over Chaos: Why Steady Posting Beats Going Viral
August 4, 2025You’ve got the experience. The skills. The work ethic.
So why aren’t you getting callbacks?
The problem might be your resume and not because of what’s missing, but because of how it’s presented. Here are the mistakes we see most often that make great candidates look like bad ones.
❌ 1. Using a Generic Template
Hiring managers can spot a cookie-cutter resume in two seconds. It says, “I didn’t put much effort into this.” A good design isn’t about color and icons, it’s about clean structure, easy navigation, and focus.
❌ 2. Focusing on Job Duties, Not Results
Listing what you were responsible for doesn’t say what you actually achieved.
Which sounds stronger?
- “Managed customer service emails”
vs. - “Resolved 50+ customer emails daily with a 95% satisfaction rate”
Give them numbers. Give them results.
❌ 3. Including Irrelevant or Outdated Info
That retail job from 2008? Probably not helping anymore. Tailor your resume to the position you want, not every job you’ve ever had. Keep it sharp, focused, and current.
❌ 4. Ignoring Keywords
Many resumes get filtered out before a human ever sees them. If you’re not using the right keywords from the job description, your resume might not make it through the system.
❌ 5. Weak or Missing Summary Section
If your resume starts with a bland sentence or jumps right into work history, you’re missing a chance to sell yourself in 3–4 powerful lines. The summary is your elevator pitch, make it count.
